Everyone needs an editor – and in some cases, a writer. In these projects, I help clients craft a narrative, organize it so it flows and find angles that are new and different.
The early days of the pandemic were a shock, causing a spike in adrenaline, which stops us from feeling pain, so we can get out of danger, and spurs intense alertness to help us make better split-second decisions. Next was a period of prolonged psychic pain, which came from three deep psychological needs not being met: our needs for certainty, control, and connectedness. We’re now in the rehabilitation phase, which can be the most painful of all, because we need to dig a little deeper to rebuild, repair, and regrow.
Today’s world is filled with a litany of options—from the kinds of cereals lining grocery store aisles to the number of TV shows available to stream; there are plenty of scenarios where we can see the applicability of the sage advice that “less is more.”
None of today’s commonly used options provide lasting learning at a reasonable cost and timeframe that scales to all leaders in an organization.
As companies figure out how to implement vaccination mandates, brain science can help leaders develop strategies for managing employee reactions. Mandates feel like a violation of autonomy, which is one of the five most important intrinsic drivers of threat and reward in the brain.
